Friday, April 9th--Mandarin Park

The following message was sent out from a member of The Fruit Cove Moms Club:
You can find the full story by clicking HERE

Dear Moms- I wanted to pass along my experience at Mandarin Park today as more and more of us are out with the kids during the summer. There was a man (early 20's) at the park that just didn't seem to fit in with the moms/grandparents and kids that were there today. Long story short.. he ended up grabbing one of the moms by knifepoint (she was there with 3 other moms and about 10 kids)- pushed her to her car and tried to get her to get in the car with him. Luckily everyone was screaming so much he ended up pushing the woman aside and just took her car. I had already been on the phone with 911 as we heard the screams of the group earlier (before he got to the car) was able to get the license tag and the cops caught him on Flynn Road so he didn't get very far. The What Ifs- are swirling around in my head right now- but luckily a bad situation ended up ok- no one was hurt (car wrecked) but the guy was caught and will be going away for a long time. It is scary that this is happening in our back yard- just a reminder to be aware and keep the little ones close.

Have a great and safe summer.

March 31st--Mickler's Beach--Man taking photos of children

MomWatch received the email below from a Fruit Cove/Julington creek mom. Mickler's is often the beach that our area families go to so we felt it important to post this even though it did not happen in our area. We also received an additional report from a Julington Creek mom who happened to be at Atlantic Beach on Easter Sunday who saw a well dressed older man (late 50's to mid 60's) walking alone and sneaking photos of teenage girls while they were sleeping and laying in the sun. Please remember to be safe and aware at the beach now that everyone is out enjoying the great weather!

Today (3/31) I was at Mickler's beach with my kids. I noticed a man (at the time wearing a green/white striped shirt, bathing suit, straw hat) in his mid-late 40's with a 35 mm camera. I am 90% sure he was taking pictures of young children playing on the beach. He was alone. He was a white male with tan skin. Clean cut, hair very short maybe salt/pepper color hard to tell.

He was so under the radar. There were so many people with kids running everywhere. But [I] happened to be watching. And he was much too quick with his camera when little ones ran past him. I did not have my cell with me at the time. But as soon as I got home I did report it to SJS office.

With spring break here and summer quickly approaching I know these freaks will be and are everywhere. I know it's tough to keep your eyes on your kids at the beach never-mind these super freaks. But please keep this description in your head. I really believe he was not taking shots of the beach.

Thank you for your attention---have a safe spring break.

December 2nd---4:24am Pine Crossing Subdivision /Julington Creek Plantation

The following is a firsthand account:

MomWatch would like to point out that this occurance happened at around the same time in the early morning as the previous 2 situations.

Approx. 4:25am (I was awake and had pressed snooze twice, laying in bed) Heard a noise on the back lanai (where bedroom windows are). Then heard a loud crash (either tripped over something that was on lanai or hit into something). Then heard heavy footsteps (sounded like a boot).

I believe whoever this was, came over fence in the background that faces racetrack and left the same way. My husband was out of town but I had my brother staying with us.
I ran into the kitchen to grab my cell phone and ran into his bedroom to call the police.

911 was called and cops arrived around 4:50am or so
Patrolled around the house and said they did not notice or see anything.
Nothing has happened since nor has anything occurred with any of my neighbors.

Community Association Alert

SAFETY ALERT
This alert message was sent out to the residents of Julington Creek Plantation, we thought we'd post it here as they give some great guidelines for all of our neighborhoods.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that over the past week we have received reports that there have been three attempts to break into homes or peep in windows. To keep your home safe, remember to lock your windows and doors and keep the exterior of your home well lit (with exterior lights or motion activated lights). With the cooler weather, it is tempting to sleep with your windows open. If you choose to do this, make sure that you have window locks that do not allow the windows to open beyond a width that would allow someone to enter through the window. Another preventative measure is to make sure your hedges and bushes are trimmed so that you do not provide a place where someone can attempt to enter your house without being visible to neighbors or from the street. Make sure you keep your garage doors closed and your cars locked so that there is no easy access to any of your belongings. Please work with your neighbors to make sure that you are watching out for each other.
